Hosted this year by KU Leuven, CERIL’s 4th International Conference will explore the rapidly expanding landscape of European restructuring and insolvency law. Once an area largely untouched by harmonisation efforts, this field has undergone remarkable transformation in the last years. With reforms driven by the EU’s Capital Markets Union and the prospect of a 28th company and insolvency law regime, change is underway.
This year’s programme will examine the implications of the new EU Insolvency Directive (Insolvency III) for legislators, courts, and practitioners. Building on last year’s CERIL statement, substantive discussions will focus on the European Insolvency Regulation 2015 ahead of the upcoming review. Looking ahead, the conference will explore what the next phase of development may bring — from the design of a 28th EU insolvency regime to the growing impact of digitalisation on restructuring and insolvency practice.
This year, we are pleased to welcome as key note speaker: Prof. René Repasi. He is a Member of the European Parliament, in this capacity he has acted as the shadow rapporteur for the new EU Insolvency Directive. In addition, he is currently the rapporteur for the EU 28th Regime for Innovative Companies, including the rules on insolvency law.

The venue of the conference is the Irish College of St. Antony in Leuven, in a 17th century chapel converted into a modern auditorium.
